Water
Lorestan province is the wettest province of the country, after three northern provinces. The average annual precipitation for the whole country is about 252 mm, while in Lorestan it is about 580 mm. This amount of rainfall besides the mountainous topography and good climate has caused one of the country's richest flowing water networks with 30 permanent rivers with a total length of 2450 kilometers. Taking into account the water flowing from surrounding provinces, after deducting the amount used, these rivers discharged over 13 billion cubic meters of water into the lake behind Dez and Karkheh dams. This volume of water is about 11% of the country's ongoing water. Moreover, Lorestan having a hard formation geology and 3,500 kilometers of alluvial aquifers has over 3.5 billion cubic meters of groundwater in storage. Of the province's potential water, about 2 billion cubic meters with an efficiency of 35 percent is spent in the agricultural sector.
